When Adobe invited me to design the official Illustrator 2023 splash screen, I wanted to capture my relationship with the software itself,the balance between hand-drawn warmth and digital precision.
The result is a vibrant, layered composition that celebrates rhythm, trial and error, motion, and the joy of creating. A welcoming visual that meets every user the moment Illustrator opens.
Process
Two of Illustrator’s tools shaped the piece in a big way: Image Trace and Recolor Artwork.
Image Trace lets me bring the soul of my sketches into the digital world without losing their human touch.
Recolor Artwork makes experimenting with palettes effortless. I can cycle through colors in seconds until I find that perfect vibrancy and rhythm.
For this splash screen, I began with hand-drawn lettering and illustrations, then used Image Trace to maintain their organic character while vectorizing them for crisp scalability. With Recolor Artwork, I explored bold palettes to find the one that felt most energetic.
